Improve your breathing for better health with the Buteyko method

Are you tired of being told to "take a deep breath" when stress hits? Ever wished for a structured approach to cultivate healthier breathing habits for overall well-being? Look no further than the Buteyko method, developed by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko in the 1950's.

Dr. Buteyko's system is designed to train optimal breathing patterns, enhancing well-being, sports performance, and alleviating various conditions such as sleep disorders, irregular breathing, asthma, and anxiety. The beauty of Buteyko Therapeutic Breathing lies in its simplicity. Through easy-to-follow exercises, it emphasizes nasal breathing over mouth-breathing, promoting better health for individuals of all fitness levels.

This method, rooted in scientific principles, focuses on conscious breath control and efficient breathing techniques. With consistent practice, progress becomes tangible and comparable, leading to a myriad of benefits. These benefits include: improved management of stress and anxiety, reduced symptoms of respiratory conditions like asthma, enhanced sleep quality, and even alleviation of symptoms associated with respiratory illnesses such as Covid-19.

At Buteyko breathing sessions, individuals receive personalized guidance tailored to their specific needs and abilities. Starting from foundational practices and progressing towards achievable goals, participants engage in a calm, relaxed atmosphere requiring no special equipment or attire, making it accessible anytime, anywhere.

Under the expert guidance of instructors like Elena, participants learn breath retention exercises that regulate breath speed and volume. This fosters slower, calmer, and more effective breathing patterns.

Ideal for those prone to hyperventilation, such as individuals with asthma or anxiety, Buteyko breathing helps stabilize breathing patterns, balance carbon dioxide levels, and reduce stress. Studies have highlighted its effectiveness in improving asthma symptoms and even addressing obstructive Eustachian tube dysfunction.

To embark on your Buteyko journey, it's advisable to seek out certified instructors like Elena, who can provide comprehensive training. The Buteyko Breathing Association recommends a minimum of five hours of in-person training, coupled with regular practice sessions lasting 15 to 20 minutes, three times daily, for at least six weeks.

Unlock the potential of your breath with the Buteyko method, and breathe your way to better health and vitality.

About me....

My name is Elena. I am based in Truro, Cornwall. I have a medical background, having trained as a midwife in a medical college in Russia, and then afterwards, in 1993, as a massage therapist and yoga instructor. I graduated in 1998 with a degree in Sports Exercise and Therapies and I completed my PhD in 2003.

I learned about the Buteyko method during a particularly difficult year. After suffering a family loss, I challenged myself to travel to Japan to take 6th Dan in jodo. This created a lot of built up stress and anxiety before the examination. During this time I found I could get through the stress and emotions by controlling and slowing down my breath. I succeeded in passing the 6th Dan examination and decided to study the breathing methods that had helped me more deeply. That’s when I discovered the Buteyko method, and subsequently qualified as a practitioner.

Having helped many clients improve their health through online breathing classes I will soon be offering face to face classes for individuals or small groups. Please contact me to discuss arrangements and rates.

What my clients say....

"Elena's online breathing training has helped me make breathing exercises a part of my daily routine and it would be no exaggeration to describe them as life-changing. I sleep much deeper than I ever have which has had a dramatic effect on my general health." Mike, Lincolnshire
